About us

Since 1971, Meals on Wheels – Santa Maria Valley program has helped our community by providing home delivered nutritious meals five days a week, including holidays, taking some of the worry out of shopping and preparing meals, allowing our clients to live an independent lifestyle. Services are provided to clients in Santa Maria and Orcutt.

We proudly serve over 160 clients and over 20,500 meals annually with a minimum of 75 volunteer drivers and two part-time staff.

In collaboration with Dignity Health, meals are prepared at the Marian Extended Care Center kitchen. The hospital employs a full-time dietitian responsible for the daily management of the dietary services. The kitchen is in compliance with Federal and State licensure requirements for food and dietary personnel, as well as food service standards, laws and regulations. All food is purchased from authorized vendors only.

Six volunteer drivers deliver 80 meals a day from the kitchen, and deliver to their clients using state-of-the-art Zippy Meals route sheets and maps. Meals consist of a hot entrée (protein, starch and vegetable), and a cold sack with fruit, salad, and bread. On request, meals are prepared according to a physician ordered therapeutic diet (e.g., diabetic, low sodium, renal, pureed, and more). All meals delivered in earth friendly containers.
